Methodology

What counts as a facility, and how we know.

The Monitor tracks startups moving new technology from the lab to commercial scale. We define a startup as any privately funded company bringing a new technology to market, and we catalog the physical steps along the way: production facilities, reduced-scale pilots, and full-scale demonstration plants across North America. Each entry records the company, location, footprint and industry. We add facilities as we find them and update entries as they change. It isn't exhaustive, and it doesn't try to be. It's a working map, maintained by people who read the announcements so you don't have to.
